ART WEEK 2015

September 2015, Principal's Report
The year continues to fly by with spring now officially here. The last few weeks have been action packed with a number of special trips and events.
Our Annual Ski Trip to Queenstown took place recently, with students experiencing freezing temperatures and fresh snow and amazing weather as they skied Cardrona. This was a great experience for students to learn new skills and experience a unique part of New Zealand.
Our sincerest thanks go to the families who opened their homes to students from Munakata, Japan for six days recently. Over the years many new friendships have been formed and maintained through this exchange programme.
We have also recently hosted a number of Korean students in classrooms for two weeks, allowing them to experience and learn in a New Zealand classroom setting.
Both year seven and year eight classes have been involved in exciting trips to the Auckland Museum, the Auckland Zoo and Visy Recycling Centre. These trips add to the learning and understanding of study topics. Thank you for supporting these through your child’s involve- ment and parent help.
Congratulations to our Indian Dance group who represented Mt Roskill Intermediate School in the Desi Dance competition. They displayed commitment, talent and creativity, picking up the ‘Azar Adam Award’, along with the ‘Best Male Dancer’ Awarded to Neil Patel. Well done! The group will perform at our Campus Diwali celebration early next term.
Throughout this term and last term, our dedicated Hockey players and Netball players, Water Polo teams and school table tennis teams have continued to play and represent the school week in and week out in the rain, cold, wind and sunshine. As the playing seasons come to a close, I would like to particularly acknowledge the dedication to training and teamwork that has been evident. I am really proud of the efforts of our teams. The support from parents with transport, encouragement and enthusiasm on the sidelines is really appreciated. Thank you. Two weeks ago the Mount Roskill Campus Fia Fia night, hosted by Mount Roskill Primary School, took place. It was a fantastic celebration of the Pasifika talent that we have across the Campus with cultural performances by our cultural groups.
Our recent Pukekohe exchange was also a great success with 120 students travelling to compete in 8 different sporting codes.
Mrs Nathasha Nethula is now on Maternity leave, and we would like to congratulate her and her husband on the birth of their son. We are fortunate to have appointed Mr Joe Worrall as the new teacher in Room 12.
The School has been in the process of purchasing a large number of Chrome Books to support the Digital Learning that is taking place in classrooms. Your child should be able to share with you some of the ‘Docs’ and activities they have been working on in class.
Mount Roskill Intermediate School, Mount Roskill Grammar, Mount Roskill Primary along with Three Kings Primary School and Dominion Road Primary School have formed a Community of Schools. This will mean that we are working even closer together to raise achievement across the five schools. We are still at the initial stages of beginning to develop a plan of what this will look like. We will share with you more information as it is developed. It will build on the work that we are already doing across our Campus to support students in their learning as they move to a new stage of schooling.
Finally, students are really settled in their learning and working hard on their goals. It is great to hear the confident way that students are able to share what they are learning and what they need to work on. Please keep talking to your child about their goals and what they are learning. Thank you for your ongoing support.
